Garden Catalogs 2021--Vermont Bean Seed
The Vermont Bean Seed 2021 catalog features so much more than just bean seeds. Gardeners who specialize in edible plants are sure to love this catalog for most every listing here is edible, including the sunflower seeds.

Obviously, one of the company’s main specialty is beans of all types. There are several pages devoted to dry bean varieties. Featured in the first couple pages of the catalog are some of the new bean and pea varieties for 2021. These include Snak Hero snap pea, Coyote bush bean, and Swedish brown bean,

The company specializes in vegetables, fruits, and other edibles. These include herb seeds, horseradish, turmeric and ginger roots, Jerusalem artichoke tubers, mushroom kits, and berry bushes along with strawberry plants, seed potatoes, sweet potato plants, garlic, and onion sets. A whole page is devoted to the various kinds of asparagus.

This catalog also lists many heirloom varieties along with tried and true classics, such as older All America Selections award winners that aren’t commonly available now. These include Derby bush bean, a 1990 award winner, and Kentucky Blue Pole bean, a 1991 award winner, Sweet Success burpless hybrid cucumber, which was a 1983 award winner, Iochiefs hybrid corn, which was named an award winner in 1951, and Fanfare hybrid cucumber, an award winner in 1994.

Readers will find so many wonderful varieties that there probably won’t be room enough in the garden for all of them. As a remedy for this conundrum, the Vermont Bean Seed catalog is offering for the first time a whole page of vegetable varieties for containers along with blueberries that can be grown in pots.

The vegetables are listed pretty much alphabetically with beans being first. The back cover has a wonderful new strawberry plant called Galletta, which was bred at North Carolina State University by Dr. Jim Ballington.

There is nearly a full page of grafted vegetable plants, including eggplants, peppers, and tomatoes. In addition, the Vermont Bean Seed catalog also has a whole page devoted to vegetable plants. Sprouting seeds are also listed.

Some seeds are available as seed tape. An entire page is devoted to carrots. What I find to be the most tempting of all are the four whole pages of corn varieties, including heirlooms, ordinary sweet corn, popcorn, supersweets, field corn, and ornamental corns.

Readers will find this catalog easy to use. There is a handy index located on the bottom of the order form.

The 2021 Vermont Bean Seed catalog also lists many kinds of gardening aids, including bean and pea inoculant. For each edible crop, this catalog features detailed instructions on how to grow it. There is also a complete description and other information for each variety.

With this catalog, gardeners have a wide range of options when it comes to ordering unlike some web-only seed catalogs. Readers can order by fax, phone, or mail as well as online.
